House FY12 Appropriations Bill Cuts Pell Grants by $44 Billion: The House Appropriations Committee’s budget proposal for the coming year would cut the Pell Grants of millions of needy students. In addition, about 1 million students would be kicked out of the program entirely by 2017, including 550,000 as soon as next year.

Reducing this allowance would hurt millions of working students who rely on Pell.
House FY12 Appropriations Bill’s Expanded Income Definition Hurts the Neediest Students: A proposal to expand the definition of untaxed income would cut Pell Grants for needy students by an estimated $12 billion over the next 10 years, harming college access, completion, and economic growth.
House FY12 Appropriations Bill Increases Uncertainty and Complexity in the Financial-Aid Process for Students with Family Incomes over $15,000: Nearly two million Pell Grant recipients — many of whom are students with children — would be affected by this policy change.
